South Africa remained firmly in the driving seat of Group C when they comfortably beat Lesotho 3-0 in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier decided at the Free State Stadium, Bloemfontein on Friday night.
Goals by Mohau Nkota (15th), Lyle Foster (64th) and Oswin Appollis (67th) sealed a comprehensive win for Bafana Bafana as they increased their points haul to 16 and stay firmly at the top of Group C.
Lesotho are forced to play their World Cup qualifying games away from home as their stadiums do not meet the FIFA accreditation standards.
A day before the match, the secretary general of the Lesotho Football Association, Mokhosi Mohapi, issued a warning that they will protest if South Africa fields Teboho Mokoena.
Interestingly, Bafana head coach Hugo Broos decided to start with the Mamelodi Sundowns star.
In the other Group C game also on Friday, hosts Benin edged Zimbabwe 1-0 to retain second spot with 11 points.
Fourth-placed Nigeria hosts Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Friday, and a win for the Super Eagles will lift the team into third on the log.
