South Africa have been dealt a major injury blow ahead of their crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda.
The Bafana Bafana will be without Orlando Pirates forward, Relebohile Mofokeng (Pictured), who has been withdrawn from the senior national team due to injury he sustained last Saturday.
Consequently, Mofokeng will miss Friday’s penultimate match against neighbours Zimbabwe and next Tuesday’s final qualifier against Rwanda.
Mofokeng has been replaced by Mduduzi Shabalala of Kaizer Chiefs.
Coach Hugo Broos says only two overseas based players, Lyle Foster and Siphephelo Sithole, missed the first day of training.
“First of all, some news about the selection. So, we had to replace Rele Mofokeng because of the injury he got on Saturday and replaced him with [Mduduzi] Shabalala.
“Secondly, there are two players who did not arrive because they played yesterday, that was Foster and Sithole. So, they will arrive Tuesday morning, and on Tuesday afternoon we will be complete to do this training,” adds Broos.
