A South African Football Association (SAFA) delegation was in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, this past weekend attending the Asian Football Federation’s (AFF) Ordinary Congress.

The delegation, led by SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan, CEO Lydia Monyepao and 2027 Bid Committee chair Tumi Dlamini, used the opportunity to also tell the attendees at the AFF Ordinary Congress on Sunday (1 October 2023) why South Africa should host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in four year’s time.

South Africa is bidding to host the 2027 global tournament and will be up against Brazil, joint bids from Mexico and the United States of America, and the trio of Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. Some of the country’s bid rivals were also in attendance at the AFF Ordinary Congress.

“We were happy with the way we were received here,” said SAFA President Dr Jordaan. “We put our position forward as far as our plans to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027 and the visit was a success.”

The AFF is an organisation within the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and is an international governing body of association football, futsal, and beach soccer in Southeast Asia. It consists of the federations of Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
