Nigeria were ruthless in their quarterfinal duel against Zambia on Friday, cruising to an emphatic 5-0 win to seal a semi-final spot at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The form book was virtually torn to shreds as the Copper Queens failed to meet pre-match expectations, falling to the almighty Super Falcons in a hail of goals in Casablanca.
Not even the presence of former African Women’s Footballer of the Year, Barbara Banda could sway the game in Zambia’s favour.
Falcons had the result all wrapped up with a commanding 3-0 advantage before the break with goals from Osinachi Ohale, Esther Okoronkwo and Chinwendu Ihezuo.
Another commanding performance after the restart saw Nigeria pumping in two more goals thanks to Tosin Dennehin and Folashade Ijamilusi.
It was a revenge of sorts for the Nigerians after they lost to Zambia in the third-place match of the 2022 edition of the tournament.
The Super Falcons have posted an impressive defensive record so far with zero goals conceded.
Next up for the nine-time African champions is a semi-final fixture against the winner of Saturday’s quarter-final duel between defending champions South Africa or Senegal.
