South African champions, Mamelodi Sundowns are proud to announce that they have agreed on a four-year contract extension with a one year option that will see first choice goalkeeper and Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams remain at Chloorkop until 2028.

The goalkeeper, who joined the club in 2022, has been a mainstay between the posts since his arrival, helping the club win the DStv Premiership, the African Football League (AFL) and qualify for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

Speaking on his extension in an interview on the club’s website, Williams expressed his delight to be continuing with the Yellow Nation.

“I’m over the moon, it just shows the belief that the club has in me, it shows the value that I’ve brought to the club. There is so much that we can achieve as a team and I’m looking forward to it with lots of excitement.”

“It was an easy decision for me, I’ve been happy since day one. The club has helped me grow as a football player and as a person, so it was a no-brainer for me [to extend].”

Ronwen has enjoyed a stellar 2023/24 campaign for both club and country, helping The Brazilians achieve a record start in the League and keeping numerous clean sheets.

Williams also showcased his incredible talents on the continental stage, with outstanding performances in goal for the South African National team at the Africa Cup Of Nations Tournament earlier this year, which ended in a 3rd place finish.

‘Ronza’ says that he’s looking forward to ending the season on a strong note.

“[The extension] definitely gives us confidence to end the season on a high, especially now towards the latter stages, this serves as a morale boost to give me that extra push to try and add a few more trophies to the cabinet. There’s now bigger and better expectations,

“We’ve won the African Football League (AFL), and next year we’re going to the FIFA Club World Cup, those are things when I signed I didn’t even think about achieving, it shows what this club is capable of achieving. Like our motto ‘The Sky’s the Limit’ for this team and we want to achieve greatness.”

Williams ended off with a message to the ever-faithful Mamelodi Sundowns supporters:

“To the Yellow Nation – thank you so much for your support, you’ve gotten behind me since day one. You are always there for us, singing and inspiring us and being our extra man, I’m looking forward to the future!”
