His death was announced by his family on Monday, confirming that he passed away on October 6 2025 at the age of 80.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), described Reverend Ukpai as a towering figure in the Nigerian Church whose ministry transformed countless lives and strengthened the body of Christ across generations.

In a statement issued on Monday, October 13, 2025, and signed by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, CAN said the late cleric’s life was defined by unwavering faith, humility, and a lifelong commitment to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

“Reverend Dr. Ukpai was a renowned evangelist, teacher, and servant of God whose evangelistic ministry spanned more than six decades,” the statement read. “Through crusades, teachings, and acts of charity, he devoted his life to preaching the gospel, nurturing faith, and advancing the cause of Christ across denominations and regions.”

Ukpai’s ministry, spanned over 60 years, and leaves behind a profound spiritual and social legacy, with churches, educational initiatives, and humanitarian efforts that continue to influence communities globally.

The family expressed gratitude for the life and work of Ukpai, highlighting that while they mourn his physical absence, they rejoice that he has “finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise.”

They assured the public that details of his obsequies would be shared in due course.
