In a move to sanitize Nigeria’s pension system, the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has sealed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to stamp out corruption in the administration of the Defined Benefit Pension Scheme (DBS).

The agreement, signed by PTAD Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, and ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), establishes a strong framework for collaboration on monitoring, investigation, and prosecution of pension-related fraud.

Odunaiya declared that the partnership is a bold demonstration of government’s resolve to deliver transparency, accountability, and good governance to pensioners nationwide.

“This MoU reflects our shared determination to uphold integrity in the DBS and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

By leveraging our combined strengths, we can significantly enhance the capacity to prevent, detect, and prosecute corruption in the pension system,” she stated.

Echoing her stance, ICPC Chairman Aliyu described the collaboration as a “seamless and powerful force” that will merge PTAD’s increasingly digitized pension database with the ICPC’s investigative and prosecutorial muscle.

He hailed the initiative as a turning point in safeguarding the welfare of retirees, commending Odunaiya’s commitment to the anti-graft fight.

The MoU signals a tougher era for pension fraudsters, as both agencies vowed to aggressively pursue offenders, reinforce accountability, and restore trust in the management of Nigeria’s Defined Benefit Pension Scheme.(www.amatropics.com)
