Nigeria international goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali has parted ways with his South African Betway Premiership team, Chippa United, the club confirmed on Thursday.
The Super Eagles safe hands joined Chippa from the Nigerian side Katsina United in 2022. He has been an integral part of the team and was subsequently called up for the Nigerian national team, where he has cemented the number one spot.
However, the 29-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club in recent years, with Kaizer Chiefs among the clubs reportedly interested. He has also been linked with a move to Europe and to Arab countries.
Nwabali was part of the Super Eagles side that finished third at the AFCON tournament in Morocco after beating Egypt on penalties in the third-placed playoff match.
The club confirmed in a statement released on Thursday that Nwabali has submitted a request to leave the club which was subsequently granted.
“Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart club,” the club said.
“After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release. We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club.
“His contribution to the club will always be appreciated. The club wishes Stanley every success in the next chapter of his career and in all his future endeavours.”
Nwabali was in the last six months of his contract at the club and was eligible to sign a pre-contract with any club of his choice. There have been reports of growing interest following his performances at the AFCON tournament.
