Family of late Ayo Ogunlana, have confirmed to Amatropics Media that a wake keep will be held for the Nigeria ex-international on Friday, 28th February, 2025.

The body of the former Leventis United star is expected to lie in state at ECWA Goodnews Church in Narayi, Kaduna at 03h00 pm local time on Friday, while the burial has been fixed for Saturday, 1st March 2025.

His remains will leave St. Gerald Catholic Hospital by 08h00 am on Saturday for the final interment at Barnawa Cemetery.

Ogunlana, who plied his trade with the famous Leventis United FC in the 80s, will be remembered for playing a huge role in Nigeria’s qualification for the 1990 Africa Cup of Nations as well as piloting the team to a silver medal finish at the tournament proper in Algeria.

Known for his guile and free kick specialty, he was instrumental to Nigeria’s 2-0 defeat of arch rivals Cameroon in a 1990 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Ibadan, and also played in the 1990 ECOWAS Cup competition hosted by Nigeria in Kaduna.

He passed away in Kaduna on February 14, 2025 following a cardiac arrest.
