City of Joburg must allocate Permits for street traders, court rules

President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has expressed his sorrow at the shock news of the death of South African football legend, Lucas “Masterpieces” Moripe.

On behalf of CAF and on his own behalf, Motsepe extended his deepest condolences to Moripe’s family, the South African Football Federation (SAFA) and the entire South African football community.

Moripe, a soccer star in the 1970s, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, November 20 at the age of 71 after a long battle with illness. Moripe began his career in 1971 with Pretoria Callies, where he became a defenders’ nightmare and earned the nickname “The God of Football” from adoring supporters.

In his honour whilst still alive, a street in Atteridgeville, a township located to the west of Pretoria, was named after him, and this was followed by the renaming of the Atteridgeville Super Stadium in 2010.

To date, the venue, often used by Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United, is known as the Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium.
