Mr. Qaiser Nawab, Chairman of the Belt and Road Initiative for Sustainable Development (BRISD), along with his delegation, actively participated in the World Congress in Defense of Mother Earth, held in Caracas, Venezuela, from October 8–10, 2025.

The global congress, organized under the auspices of the Government of Venezuela and the UNESCO Decade of Science for Sustainable Development, gathered world leaders, social movements, scientists, youth, and policymakers to discuss urgent climate challenges and the future of sustainable living.

During the opening session, President Nicolás Maduro highlighted the global climate emergency and called for concrete, collective action to defend life on Earth.

As part of his engagements, Mr. Nawab joined the Minister of Science and Technology, H.E. Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez, and the Minister of Ecosocialism, H.E. Ricardo Molina, in a symbolic tree plantation ceremony in Caracas — naming it a growing friendship between Pakistan and Venezuela.

Mr. Nawab also met with H.E. Teresa Carrasquel, Deputy Minister of Ecosocialism of Venezuela, a young and passionate environmental leader, appreciating her energy, commitment, and tireless efforts to protect Mother Earth.

Throughout the congress, Mr. Nawab interacted with several global climate activists and dignitaries from countries including Bolivia, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Mexico, El Salvador, Brazil, Argentina, Ghana, Haiti and Tanzania, commending their contributions toward global sustainability.

He also had a notable meeting with H.E. David Choquehuanca, Vice President of Bolivia, where they discussed the vision of BRISD, South–South cooperation, and fostering win–win partnerships under China’s Belt and Road framework.

In his remarks, Mr. Nawab raised his voice for Palestine, receiving solidarity from numerous participants who echoed his call for justice and peace.

Mr. Nawab expressed deep appreciation to the Government of Venezuela and the Congress organizers for their warm hospitality and visionary leadership in uniting the world around the cause of climate action and sustainability.

“Caracas has been one of the most vibrant and inspiring cities I’ve visited among 66 countries. The passion, culture, and commitment of the Venezuelan people toward protecting our planet are truly admirable,” — Qaiser Nawab, Chairman BRISD.(www.amatropics.com)
