South Africa’s senior men’s soccer team improved massively in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday, following their bronze medal showing at the recent AFCON tournament held in Cote d’Ivoire.
The Bafana Bafana have now moved up eight places to 58th, improving on their 66th placement before the tournament.
The latest ranking also means South Africa are now placed 10th in Africa. This is the best CAF ranking the national team has occupied since January 2014.
Africa’s leading nation in FIFA Rankings Morocco also moved to one step in the latest rankings from 13th to 12th place.
Meanwhile, Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia, Algeria, Mali, and Cameroon complete the line-up for Africa’s 10 best national teams in the latest rankings.
The World Champions Argentina remain top of the list followed by France who failed to defend their World Cup title against Lionel Messi’s nation.
England are number three followed by Belgium. Brazil and the Netherlands also remain in fifth and sixth place respectively at the latest world rankings.
