Deputy president of the Patriotic Alliance (PA) party, Mr. Kenny Kunene (Pictured), has been reinstated as Johannesburg’s Mayoral Committee Member (MMC) for Transport.
Kunene’s appointment, which was confirmed by Mayor Dada Morero, follows weeks of tense negotiations between the African National Congress ( ANC) and PA, with threats to collapse the Government of National Unity.
The controversy traces back to a July Hawks raid on the Sandton home of businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe, who was accused of murder and organised crime. Kunene was at the house at the time, but not arrested.
Kunene insisted he was there for a media interview, though the incident sparked questions about his associations and political standing.
The PA suspended him, pending an investigation, but later cleared him of any wrongdoing.
