Nigeria’s female U-19 national basketball team, Junior Tigress have been knocked out of the FIBA U-19 Women’s World Cup after going down 51-77 to Hungary in a Round of 16 tie on Wednesday in Czech Republic.
The Hungarians dominated the game from the outset with balanced attack and strong defensive pressure that limited Nigeria to just 51 points.
Top performers for Nigeria on the day were Tobenna Nweke, who led with 12 points and four rebounds, Jessica Ajayi with 11 points and three rebounds, and Momoluwa Tewogbade who recorded nine points and three rebounds.
The Junior D’Tigress had kicked off the tournament with an amazing victory against favourites China, but their momentum was short-lived when they lost heavily to Canada 113-42 in their second group game.
