Five men charged with the murder of South African rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes are due to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court again on Friday.

Forbes and his friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane were gunned down outside a restaurant in February last year.

The court has granted the state a final postponement for further police investigations in August.

This after state prosecutor Advocate Lawrence Gcaba told the court that more arrests may follow depending on the outcome of an investigation into a payment of R800 000 to one of the accused, who allegedly played a key role in the murders.

Meanwhile, two other suspects who were arrested in Eswatini are appealing against their extradition order.

Earlier this year, AKA’s father Tony Forbes said he was not convinced that the mastermind is among those who have been arrested.

Forbes however also said that he is confident in the state’s case.

“I feel confident, I feel that a lot of work has been done by the team to be able to oppose bail. I think the fact that there was R800 000 that was paid for this supports the view that there are some serious resources put to work to make this happen. I still do not believe what would be the motive of this particular organiser to kill my son Kiernan. I believe that the mastermind is still out there.”
