South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a state funeral category two to honour former Deputy President, David Mabuza.
Ramaphosa also declared an official mourning period from Monday, 7 July until the evening of 12 July 2025 when Mabuza will be buried.
The former vice-president died last week in a hospital in Johannesburg following prolonged illness.
Hailing from the small, rural province of Mpumalanga, Mabuza had a remarkable rise to national prominence, but much of that came crashing down amid suspicions of corruption.
In the heat of the allegations in early 2023, he resigned as Deputy President of South Africa and was succeeded by Paul Mashatile as the Deputy President of the African National Congress (ANC). Mabuza also formally resigned as a Member of Parliament.
Meanwhile, ANC regional structures continue visiting the family home of Mabuza.
