The South African Government has built almost five million housing units for its citizens since the end of apartheid regime 1994.
The Minister for Human Settlements, Mamoloko Kubayi, disclosed this in a statement released by

The 17th SACA awards would hold on Wednesday at Emperor’s Palace Gauteng.
The minister said that the five million houses were delivered through the Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP), giving homes to about 4.5 million South African citizens.
Kubayi also said that about 1.1 million serviced sites which are pieces of land with access to water, sanitation and electricity were provided.
This, she said, was part of strategic and intentional collaboration with the private sector in advancing the delivery of more homes and growing the country’s construction sector.
