Family of late industrialist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, has revealed that his remains will be buried in Medina, Saudi Arabia, next to his wife, Rabi’a, who died in 2023, in accordance with his final wishes.
The Kano-born billionaire business magnate passed away in Abu Dhabi, UAE on Friday night following prolonged illness. He was 94 years old.
A funeral prayer in absentia was held in Kano on Saturday.
The Kano State chapter of the Council of Ulama organized the Salatul Ghaib; a special prayer offered for the deceased when the body is not present to honour the elder statesman and philanthropist.
The prayer session attracted thousands of people from Kano and beyond.
Born on 10 May, 1931, Dantata was one of the promoters of Kano State Foundation, an endowment fund that supported educational initiatives and provided grants to small-scale entrepreneurs in Kano. He headed of a group of companies that managed his real estate and other business ventures.
He served as the first chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Katsina.
He also founded Express Petroleum and Gas Company Ltd and was one of the organizers of Jaiz Bank in Nigeria. In 1978, he was a member of the National Movement, an organization that later transformed to the National Party of Nigeria.
