South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs were beaten on penalties by Ghana’s Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup preseason tournament decided at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
Kotoko won 3-2 in sudden death penalty shoot-out after the game had ended goalless in regulation time. Chiefs missed four out of six penalties, with the visitors scoring three.
Both sides failed to score their last two penalties with Aiden McCarthy and Pule Mmodi, also missing for Chiefs.
Chiefs were awarded a penalty late in the match, but captain Miguel Inacio failed to score the spot kick.
The weekend encounter provided Chiefs an opportunity to showcase their latest signings in front of their local supporters following their previous tour of the Netherlands.
