Fears of more killings are mounting in South Africa’s troubled taxi industry after another taxi boss was assassinated in a Johannesburg suburb.
Chairperson of the Alexandra, Randburg, Midrand Taxi Association (ARMSTA), Mr. Victor Molefe Moekeletsi was shot dead alongside his bodyguard in Marlboro, Johannesburg on Thursday.
One of his other bodyguards and a motorist, who was hit by a stray bullet, were rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds.
It’s the 40th of such incidents this year alone as law enforcement grapples with frequent assassinations in the industry.
The ambush follows months after taxi associations in the area declared a truce to end long-standing rival feuds.
