United States President, Donald Trump has slapped sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) in response to arrest warrants issued by the court for Israel’s prime minister and former defence minister over alleged war crimes in Gaza.
Trump signed an executive order saying the court in The Hague had “abused its power” by issuing an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who held talks with the US president earlier this week. Neither the United States nor Israel are members of the court.
He ordered asset freezes and travel bans against ICC officials, employees, their family members, and anyone who helped the court with its investigations.
The names of the individuals were not immediately released, but previous US sanctions under Trump had targeted the court’s prosecutor.
On the Gaza truce negotiations, Israel will only send a working delegation – and not a security team – to continue indirect talks on continuing the ceasefire agreement in the Palestinian enclave, Israel’s Kan broadcaster said Thursday, adding that the delegation will travel to Doha on Saturday.
