The South African Football Association (SAFA) have given Banyana Banyana coach, Dr. Desiree Ellis a fresh mandate following the signing of her new four-year contract.
After a brief period of uncertainty and her absence from the recent WAFCON qualifiers, the 62-year-old ex-international has resumed her position as head coach of the national women’s football team, concluding negotiations with the association.
She was not on the bench during the two-legged qualifier against the Democratic Republic of Congo, as negotiations for a new contract with the association were ongoing.
Banyana’s 2-1 aggregate win over the Congolese ladies secured their spot in next year’s WAFCON in Morocco.
Ellis, a four-time CAF Women’s Coach of the Year, has been at the helm as Banyana Head Coach since 2016, qualifying the team to their first World Cup appearance winning the Women’s AFCON in 2022.
