Chidimma’s mom has right to travel outside South Africa — Minister
South Africa Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber said that the mother of the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, had a right to travel outside the country despite the allegation of fraud and corruption leveled against her.
Chidimma’s mother travelled from South Africa to Nigeria last weekend to watch the Miss Universe Nigeria beauty pageant, where her daughter emerged as a winner.
ActionSA, a minority political party in South Africa, had petitioned Home Affairs on how Adetshina’s mother was allowed to travel to Nigeria while she faces allegations of identity theft.
ActionSA, with 8 seats in South Africa’s 400-member parliament, wrote an urgent letter to the Department of Home Affairs demanding answers regarding how Chidimma Adetshina’s mother travelled to Nigeria.
Chidimma was joined on stage by her mother when she was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria on Saturday, 31 August.
This after Chidimma was surrounded by controversy regarding her South African citizenship during her Miss South Africa 2024 campaign.
“Every person in this country is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Until there’s an arrest warrant or a court order that prevents someone from leaving the country, we can’t stand up at a podium and decide who gets to enter or leave the country. So, those processes will need to be concluded,” said the SA minister.
ActionSA had sought clarity from Home Affairs on how Chidimma’s mother travelled to Nigeria to witness her daughter’s crowning moment and wants to know how the subject of an ongoing fraud and corruption investigation was permitted to leave the country.(www.amatropics.com)
