The government of Delta State on Saturday, January 25, announced the outbreak of cholera in the state.

While no death has been recorded from the outbreak, the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Joseph Onojaeme said the outbreak was recorded in Ikpide-Irri community, Isoko South Local Government Area of the State.

According to Onojaeme, the state government through the health ministry is in control of the situation.

He also debunked reports on the alleged death of two people in Ikpide-Irri LGA due to the outbreak of the disease.

Onojaeme stated that most samples of cases collected for testing are not yet ready.

He said the state have continued to advocate and enlighten residents on the need to hygienic lifestyle to avoid the spread of cholera in the state.

“We gave them tablets that will help them purify their water.

“We also gave them health education and the ones that were sick were treated.

“I can tell you categorically that the outbreak is fully under control,” Onojaeme said.
