ActionSA’s Nobuhle Mthembu was on Wednesday, 21st August 2024, elected as the new speaker of the Johannesburg council.
She replaces Margaret Arnolds, who lost the seat last Friday.

A statement by ActionSA said Mthembu was an “experienced, dedicated and ardent advocate of accountability and transparency”.
“Councillor Mthembu has been at the forefront of championing the interests of Johannesburg residents during her term in council, qualities that we believe make her an ideal candidate for the role of speaker,” it said.
