Malawi’s self-proclaimed Prophet, Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, have won an extradition battle against the South African government in Malawi.
The High Court of Malawi on Friday dismissed the 12 March 2025 order made by the Magistrates’ Court in Lilongwe, which had directed that Bushiri and his wife be surrendered to the South African government to face trial for alleged offences they committed while operating their Christian Ministry in the country.
This stems from the South African government’s extradition request submitted to Malawi.
Following the March 2025 ruling, the Bushiris’ launched a review in the High Court citing 14 grounds which included their contention that they were denied the right to be heard.
The High Court of Malaw, in an order on Friday, 31 October 2025, found, among other things, that the Magistrate did not balance the plight of the Bushiris’ and that all in all, the hearing was “one-sided”.
